Suji Rava Upma



Of all the upmas Suji rava upma is the easiest one. It takes just 15 mins. 


Ingredients:


- suji rava                    1 cup

- tomato                       1 small
- potato                        1 small(opt)
- onion                         1 big
- carrot                         1 small(opt)
- chillies                       1-2
- peas(fresh/soak)(opt)  1/4cup
- ginger                         1/2 inch piece(opt)
- salt
- turmeric powder
- water                          2 1/2 cups

TEMPERING


- 1 tbsp oil

- few peanuts
- cashew nuts(opt)
- 1 tsp channa dal
- 1 tsp split urad dal
- 1 red chilli (optional)
- 1/4 tsp mustard seeds
- 1/4 tsp jeera
- 3 curry leaves

PROCEDURE


- take a pan and fry suji rava without oil on low flame till it changes   its colour slightly.

- chopp onion, cut other vegetables into small pieces and keep them aside separately.Smash the ginger piece with pestle or rolling pin.
-take oil in a deep pan and heat it. Add  peanuts, cashew, channa dal, urad dal, mustard seeds, jeera, red chilli one by one. Fry them till the urad dal turns into light yellow colour. Now add curryleaves.  Add cut chillies and fry till they turn into pale.  Add turmeric powder and ginger.
-  add  onions,potatoes, carrot,tomatoes and peas one after another leaving little time to saute.Add salt.
-now add  water and boil on high flame.
- when boiling check the water taste. If the water is not salty add little more. Lower the flame and add rava slowly  with continuous stirring. Now put the lid and turn off the flame and wait for 5 more min. 
-ready to eat.

Tips:


- you can eat it plainly or with kara poddi or coconut chutney or pickle.

- you fry suji rava without oil slightly and store it to make easy at the time of cooking and avoiding insects also.
-you can use raw (without frying) rava also.
- depending upon your taste, water can be 3-4 cups also.
